Tonight’s Council Meeting postponed

Due to the status of the school being currently closed to students and classes being moved online, tonight’s Council Meeting will be postponed in order to allow the school administration to get a better sense of the situation and what comes next. Please stay tuned for a new date which will be announced shortly.

December School Council meeting – new date: Wed Dec 9

The next D. A. Morrison School Council meeting was originally planned for this Thursday (Dec 3), but that date conflicts with the Danforth Tech information night.

In order to avoid that conflict, the Council meeting will instead be held on Wednesday December 9th at 6:30pm. Please watch your email for a link to join the meeting. All DA families are welcome to attend and we hope that you can join us.

Community Discussion – Confronting Anti-Black Racism in Our Classrooms

Organized by the Danforth East Community Association (DECA), DECA Discussions is a monthly series of online discussions meant to highlight and inform our community about racism and how it can be addressed. This month’s topic will be “Confronting Anti-Black Racism in Our Classrooms”.

Moderator Lanrick Bennet Jr will be joined by the QuarantineEd team of Matthew Morris and Jay Williams, two TDSB teachers who pivoted their “Quarantine Ed” initiative to focus on anti-black racism.

This session will be held online (accessible through Zoom and Facebook Live) on Monday August 31 at 7pm.

Details on the start of the 2020-2021 school year

As the start of the school year rapidly approaches, many families still have questions regarding how school will operate in the coming year and what options are open to students.

After a great deal of effort and discussion, the TDSB has confirmed the current plan for reopening schools. Please refer to the August 21 update from Interim Director of Education, Carlene Jackson and Chair Alexander Brown for details.

 

A few key dates from this update:

  • first day of school: Tuesday September 15.
  • Registration dates for In-School or Virtual Learning:
    • Wednesday, August 26: Email sent to all parents/guardians and registration open
    • Saturday, August 29: Registration closes

 

The D. A. Morrison School Council has offered our support to the school administration and will be sure to communicate any additional information or announcements here as they become available.

Winter Concert and Bake Sale

Winter Concert Bake Sale - Wed Dec 18 7-8pmThe D. A. Morrison School Council will be holding a fundraising bake sale at the Winter Concert this week on Wednesday December 18 from 7:00-8:00pm. Please stop by for a delicious treat before or after the performance.

In addition to the usual collection of baked goods, we will be hosting a raffle to win 2 tickets to the Friday Dec 20 Raptors game which have been generously donated.

All funds raised will go towards school equipment and events for students.

If you are able to donate some baked goods for this sale, please drop them off at the school office on Tuesday or Wednesday.
